How to choose the right size?

What is the right size for your rug? Sometimes it can be more difficult than you think. Fortunately, 75 to 80% of the collection of Vloijtenwinkel can be made to measure. But which size should you choose for which rug? Marco Groen, shop manager of Vloijtenwinkel, tells you what to look out for when choosing the right size.

Printed carpets
"When you choose a printed rug, it's sometimes better to lay the rug separately from the sofa. In this way, the whole rug remains visible and the floor acts as a kind of frame. If you place a printed carpet under the sofa, it is often a waste of the carpet. It is possible, of course. It depends on how much you hate the fact that part of the print is not visible.

Plain carpets
"If you choose a plain carpet, like the Wool Weave from our own Home Collection, your living room becomes more of a whole. Instead of a single chair, a single sofa and a single rug, you have a really nice seating area. With a plain rug, it is often nicer to take a larger size than the standard size."

Depending on the sofa
"A rug depends on where the sofa is placed. If the sofa is against the wall and you have a large rug, like the Wool Weave, you usually place the rug 20 to 30 centimetres under the sofa. You then allow the rug to stick out a bit on either side of the sofa. If you want a large rug and your sofa is in the room, pull the rug under the sofa and chairs and let it stick out at the back."

This creates one big island on which your entire seating area sits. It all depends on how big your room is.

"If you have a corner sofa, I recommend running the rug under the sofa. When you sit in the corner of the sofa, you look in one direction. The rug should stick out on that side. On the outside of the corners, the rug sticks out How far the rug sticks out depends on the size and shape of your room. "

Room shape
"I like it when you buy an oblong rug if you also have an oblong room. If you have a square room, it's nice to buy a square rug. Sometimes it is also nice to buy a round rug. In this case, you have to let the curve run a little bit under the couch.

Available sizes
"The standard sizes we have are 140 x 200, then 160 x 230 or 170 x 240. These three sizes are when you want to lay the rug in front of the sofa. Sometimes the rug is just against the sofa, depending on the size of your room. After that, you have 200 x 300. This size often goes under the couch a little. 200 x 250 is a standard size for a number of brands. This size goes completely under the couch. Besides that, a lot of carpets can be made to measure, so you can measure exactly how far you want the carpet to go.

Crazy sizes
"Sometimes it's fun to buy a crazy size. If you have a dining room and a living room, for example, it's fun to buy an oblong rug. You can then run this rug from your living room into your dining room. That will make your room just a little bit different. "
